01 / POSITIONING + MESSAGING

TECHNICAL SUBSTANCE NEEDS A MARKET STORY.

A strong product can still be remarkably difficult to buy.

When positioning is fuzzy, every part of go-to-market gets harder: the website, campaigns, sales conversations, launches, analyst briefings, partner conversations, and the seemingly simple question, “So what do you do?”

We help cybersecurity and technology companies turn what they’ve built into a clear, credible story the market can understand.

Typical timeline
4–6 weeks

02 / THE POSITIONING PROBLEM

WHEN EVERYONE EXPLAINS IT DIFFERENTLY.

The website says one thing. Sales says another. Product describes the features, leadership talks about the vision, and customers use completely different language again. None of those people are necessarily wrong, but the market is being asked to assemble the story for itself.

Good positioning creates a shared understanding of where the product fits, who it’s for, what problem it solves, why the difference matters, and why the claims are credible.

  • The product takes too long to explain
  • Messaging has become a collection of features
  • Every competitor sounds suspiciously similar
  • Sales rewrites the pitch for every conversation
  • A new product or market has outgrown the old story
  • Technical differentiation isn’t translating into buyer value

03 / HOW THE WORK IS DONE

DON’T WRITE THE TAGLINE FIRST.

Positioning isn’t a copywriting exercise. Before deciding what to say, we need to understand what is true about the product, the market, the alternatives, the buyers, and the problems they are trying to solve.

Cybersecurity makes that harder. The categories are noisy and the buyers spend their working lives evaluating risk, so vague superlatives and absolute claims get discounted immediately. Our approach combines marketing and product experience with a long background inside the industry, so we can get into the technical substance without losing the market story.

  • Leadership and team interviews
  • Product and technical discovery
  • Customer and buyer conversations
  • Market and competitor review
  • Existing messaging and collateral
  • Sales conversations and objections

The strongest story usually already exists somewhere inside the business. The job is to find it, sharpen it, and make it usable.

ONE STORY, LOTS OF PLACES TO USE IT

POSITION
Where do we fit in the market, who are we for, and what should we be known for?
VALUE
What changes for the buyer because this exists?
DIFFERENTIATION
What is meaningfully different, and why should the buyer care?
PROOF
What can we credibly claim and substantiate?
MESSAGING
How do we turn the strategy into language teams can use?

04 / WHAT YOU GET

MESSAGING THAT CAN LEAVE THE WORKSHOP.

The exact deliverables depend on what the business needs, but can include:

  • Positioning statement
  • Value proposition
  • Audience and buyer priorities
  • Messaging architecture
  • Core company narrative
  • Product or solution messaging
  • Differentiation and proof points
  • Sales narrative
  • Homepage or key-page messaging direction
  • Launch messaging

This should become a working system for marketing, sales, product, leadership, PR, agencies, and partners rather than a deck that gets opened twice.

05 / FAQ

COMMON QUESTIONS.

What’s the difference between positioning and messaging?

Positioning defines where a product or company fits in the market, who it is for, what value it creates, and why it is meaningfully different. Messaging turns that strategic position into language that can be used across marketing, sales, product, launches, and other communications.

Can you help if we already have messaging?

Yes. Many engagements start with existing positioning or messaging that has become unclear, inconsistent, outdated, or disconnected from the product and buyers. We can assess what’s worth keeping, what needs sharpening, and where the story needs to change.

Do you write website copy too?

The work can include messaging direction and copy for priority pages where that is useful. For larger creative, brand, or content-production requirements, we are also happy to work alongside your existing team or specialist partners.

Do you only work with cybersecurity companies?

Cybersecurity is a particular strength because of our long experience in the industry, but the same work is relevant to other technology businesses with technical products, complex buying journeys, or difficult-to-explain propositions.

06 / POSITIONING + MESSAGING

THE WALKTHROUGH ONLY WORKS IF THEY MAKE IT THAT FAR.

Your buyers will do most of their research before they ever talk to your team. If your product only makes sense once someone explains it to them, you’ve already lost opportunities you never knew you had.
